Why you can't look it up by registration

This surprises a lot of people. Locking wheel nuts are made in numbered patterns, and two identical Fords built the same week can carry different pattern numbers. Wheels get swapped, nuts get replaced, and cars go through fleets. The registration tells you very little.

What is reliable is the nut itself, which is on your car right now. That's why we work from photographs.

How to take the photo

One wheel is enough — all four locking nuts are the same.
If there's a plastic cap over the nut, prise it off; the pattern is underneath.
Wipe the face clean. Brake dust hides the splines completely.
Shoot straight on, not at an angle, in daylight, with no flash.
Get within about 15cm and tap the screen to focus. Don't zoom or crop.

If you still have the old key, photograph the end of it too and any number stamped on the collar. That often settles it in one go.

A second key is 15% off, which is worth doing: the usual reason people contact us is that the first one got lost at a tyre place.

For comparison, having a locking nut professionally removed runs £40–£85 in the UK, and you're left needing a new set of nuts afterwards.

When a key won't help

We'll tell you honestly if a replacement key isn't the answer. Two cases:

The nut is rounded or chewed from a previous removal attempt or the wrong key. If the pattern is damaged, nothing will grip it, and you need a removal specialist.

The outer sleeve spins freely on the body of the nut. The key fits and turns nothing. Also a removal job.
