Which Insignia you have

Insignia A (2008–2017) — including the Sports Tourer and Country Tourer. The overwhelming majority of the ones we see.

The motorway car problem

More than almost anything else on the road, the Insignia was a rep's car. High mileage, national tyre contracts, and a fitter changing the wheels every eight or nine months for four years. Every one of those visits is a chance for the key to go missing or to get over-torqued by an air gun.

That matters practically. An Insignia nut that has been hammered on at 200Nm by an impact gun will defeat a key that would have handled a correct 120Nm. If yours has been on a fleet, budget for a decent breaker bar and some penetrating fluid alongside the key, and never let a fitter put an impact gun back on it.

Large alloys, deep recesses

The Insignia runs big wheels, and on the SRi and Elite trims the locking nut often sits deep in a recessed bore. Photograph it outside on an overcast day. A flash in a deep bore produces a white blob rather than a pattern, and we'll only have to ask you to do it again.

Where the key usually is

Boot, under the floor with the jack, or the side compartment behind the trim. On Sports Tourers check the underfloor storage. And ring your tyre place — on a car with this much fleet history, that's where it usually ended up.
