Which Astra you have

Astra H (2004–2010) — still everywhere, and the generation most likely to be on its second or third set of wheels. Assume nothing about the original nuts.
Astra J (2009–2015) — the volume seller. A lot of these were fleet and lease cars, which means multiple tyre contracts and no paperwork trail for the key.
Astra K (2015–2021) — generally the later number range.
Astra L (2021 onwards) — the Stellantis platform car. Different lineage from the J and K, so tell us the year when you message.

The ex-fleet problem

The Astra is the model where we most often see a car whose locking nuts nobody has a record of. Enormous numbers went out as company cars, ran on national tyre contracts for three or four years, and came back with a set of nuts that has no connection to anything on file.

If a dealer offers you a code against the VIN on an ex-fleet Astra, treat it with suspicion. It'll be the code for the set the car left the factory with, which may have gone in the bin years ago. The nut on the wheel is the only thing telling the truth.

Alloys and the depth problem

Astras on aftermarket alloys often have the nut sitting deep in a recessed bore. That makes it awkward to photograph — your phone shadows the pattern. Shoot outside on an overcast day rather than in a garage, and don't use the flash, which just fills the recess with glare.

Where the key usually is

Boot floor with the jack, the side compartment behind the boot trim, or the glovebox. On estates, check the underfloor storage. And if it's been to a tyre place in the last year, ring them first.
