Which Octavia you have

Mk2 (2004–2013) — hatch and estate, including the vRS. Old enough that the plastic bolt caps are usually long gone.
Mk3 (2013–2020) — the big seller, and a huge presence in the private hire trade.
Mk4 (2020 on) — current range of patterns.

The Octavia uses locking wheel bolts, not nuts, with a plastic cap over the head on most trims.

The taxi problem

More Octavias than almost anything else on this site are working cars — private hire, minicab, driving school. That changes two things. They cover very high mileage, so the tyres get changed several times a year and the bolts are run on with an impact gun every time. And the car often has more than one driver, so nobody is quite sure where the key went.

High-mileage bolts are usually far tighter than the 120 Nm they should be. A key that's nearly right will strip the spline rather than shift them, which is exactly the failure we're trying to save you from.

Skoda letters, and the wider VW group

Skoda's own keys are often marked with a letter rather than a number, and if you still have the original card or the plastic cap, the letter may be printed on it. You don't need it — but if you have it, send it with the photo and we'll confirm faster.

Beyond that, the Octavia shares its locking bolt range with the Golf, A3 and Leon. Several numbers in that range differ only in spline depth and look identical at a glance, which is why we work from the photograph rather than a lookup chart.
