Which Leon you have

  • Mk2 (2005–2012) — the hidden rear door handle shape, including the Cupra and Cupra R.
  • Mk3 (2012–2020) — hatch, ST estate and the X-Perience. FR and Cupra trims on 18" or 19" alloys.
  • Mk4 (2020 on) — current, sharing its range with the Golf Mk8.

The Leon uses locking wheel bolts, not nuts, with a plastic cap over the head on most trims.

FR and Cupra wheels change the answer

Trim matters here more than on most cars. FR and Cupra alloys use a different bolt seat profile to the standard wheels, so two Mk3 Leons registered the same month can carry different locking patterns. And these are cars people modify — a set of wheels off a Golf R or an A3 brings its own bolts with it, which means what's on your car may have no relationship to what Seat fitted.

None of that is a problem when you send a photograph, because we're reading the pattern in front of us. It is a problem if you're working from a registration lookup or a chart, and it's the main reason those go wrong on this car.

Get the cap off before you photograph it

The plastic caps come off with a small puller clip from the boot toolkit — usually missing by the time anyone needs it. Long-nose pliers with cloth over the jaws will lift one carefully. Then wipe the recess out: road grit sitting in the spline is the commonest reason we have to ask for a second photo, because spline depth is exactly what separates one number from the next in this range.

How the matching works

  1. Photograph the locking bolt — cap off, recess wiped clean, straight on, daylight, no flash.
  2. Send it with your Mk, year, trim, and whether the wheels are original. We confirm the exact key before you pay.
  3. Free UK delivery, Royal Mail Tracked 24, out within one working day.
