Which Evoque you have

L538 (2011–2018) — the original three-door and five-door, including the Convertible.
L551 (2019 on) — the second generation, including the P300e plug-in hybrid.

Don't assume it shares with the bigger cars

The most common mistake on this one: Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar and Evoque do not all use the same locking pattern. They're different cars on different platforms with different wheel fitments, and the ranges don't line up. A key someone sold you as "fits Range Rover" is a coin flip on an Evoque.

Big alloys, thin tyres, lots of kerbs

Evoques are usually on 19", 20" or 21" wheels with low-profile tyres, in town. They get kerbed, the tyres wear, and the car sees a fitter more often than the mileage would suggest. Each visit is another impact-gun cycle on the same four nuts and another chance for the key to be handed into a tool tray.

The nuts end up tighter than the 140 Nm specified. On a tight nut, a nearly-right key strips instead of turning — and once the nut is rounded you're paying a specialist £60 or more, with an alloy refurb bill at around £70 a wheel behind it if the socket slips.
