Which Clio you have

  • Clio II (1998–2005) — including the 172 and 182. Old enough that corrosion is the main obstacle to reading the nut.
  • Clio III (2005–2012) — sold in huge numbers, and the generation we see most often.
  • Clio IV (2012–2019) — the hidden rear door handles one. Dynamique and GT Line trims came on alloys.
  • Clio V (2019 on) — current range of patterns.

The first-car problem

The Clio is one of the classic first cars in the UK, which means most of them have been through four or five owners by the time anyone needs the key. Nobody hands over a small plastic case with a metal insert in it when they sell a £1,500 car — it gets left in the glovebox of the car before, or thrown out with the manual.

So don't spend long hunting. Check the glovebox, the boot floor beside the jack, and the driver's door bin, then photograph the nut and move on.

Renault, Dacia and Nissan overlap

Renault shares locking patterns across Dacia and, on some models, Nissan. A key that looks right in a photo posted on a forum for a Sandero may genuinely be wrong for your Clio by a fraction of a millimetre. That fraction is the difference between undoing the nut and rounding it.

This is why we ask for the model year alongside the picture. The photo tells us the pattern family; the year tells us which of the near-identical numbers in that family you actually have.

How the matching works

  1. Photograph the locking nut — cap off, wiped clean, straight on, daylight, no flash.
  2. Send it with your model year and trim. We confirm the exact key before you pay.
  3. Free UK delivery, Royal Mail Tracked 24, out within one working day.

Cost

Identification is free. The Renault matching service comes with free UK delivery — considerably less than the £40–£60 a garage charges to remove a single locking nut, and less again than the £55–£85 for a full set.

Our keys are cut from hardened steel to the original pattern, not soft cast copies — how our keys are made.
